Mizuno Wave Ascend 5 Running Shoe Wins the "Best for Distance" Award

by Rod Foley on November 15, 2010

Shape magazine awards the Mizuno Wave Ascend 5 trail running shoe as the "Best for Distance" shoe within the Trail Running category. Shape challenged hundreds of their readers to "put these shoes through months of training" in order to select the award winners in each category.  Only new running and trail shoes for this fall (no color updates) were eligible for an award.

Here is what Shape has to say about the Mizuno Wave Ascend 5 trail running shoe:

Who needs it: Women who cover 5 miles or more on a trek.

What it offers: This shoe's cushioning, provided by two layers of padding in the midsole, "feels pillowy soft."  One trail trotter says, "Even after 90-minute sessions, my feet weren't sore."  Mesh on the upper "prevents overheating," and the rubber outsole "has excellent grip, even on slick, muddy trails."
