Grain Flow Forging

Aligns grain structure throughout clubhead
Adding the S5 wedge to our arsenal gives the player, not only a new shape, but also the feel and ball control that they demand. Seeing Luke Donald immediately put this new S5 wedge in play was a great testimony that we hit every design goal we set out to achieve." -David Llewellyn, Golf R&D Director

Design Details

The S5 wedges deliver elite feel and shot control in a new enticing Silhouette profile.  The Silhouette profile is a softer version of the popular Teardrop shape so that when players open and close the wedge, the profile always appears aligned to the target.

The S5 wedge is available in 25 loft and bounce offerings so all possible distance gaps may be covered. High bounce versions carry a visible 15% sole grind and the low bounce offerings carry a 25% sole grind. These grinds aid in helping the high bounce versions to play higher and the low bounce versions to play lower.

Forged from Mizuno’s patented Grain Flow Forging process and carrying Mizuno’s exclusive Quad Cut grooves, the S5 wedges deliver on the promise of solid feel and ball stopping spin.

Tech Specs

  • Grain Flow Forged: From a single billet of 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon steel for soft, solid, consistent feel.
  • Quad Cut Grooves and Milled Face:  CNC milled grooves and increased surface roughness for ball stopping spin.
  • Versatile sole grinds:  The Silhouette profile is paired with distinct visible sole grinds inspired by Luke Donald - keeping the wedges versatile for an array of shots and lies.
  • Blue Ion and White Satin Finishes:  Eye-catching looks

Best Wedge I've ever used
I have been a Vokey wedge advocate since Ive fallen in love with the game. Nothing is as pure and feels so comfortable in my hands UNTIL yesterday, when I gripped this beautiful club and looked down to gorgeous blue steel behind the ball. This is the greatest wedge I have ever used. It is not only sexy in the bag but sounds and feels the way a golf club should feel. I even got a little nervous standing over my shot this brand new 56/10 thinking this is my first shot with this club, make it a good one! I picked it nicely and couldnt be happier with the result. Thank you Mizuno for making phenomenal equipment! I look forward to what you have coming to us in the future!

awsome feel and control
was looking to buy a Vokey SM6 but a Mizuno rep asked me to try the forged S5 and I fell in love. this wedge just fit me and felt like butter. I can control the distances I want and massive spin. nothing like a forged club. thank you Mizuno, oh and the blue, come on, it looks awesome.

Best Wedge
This is the best wedge you can purchase period. I've got 3- 52,56 and 60. Obviously they are beautiful aesthetically but your getting Mizuno quality. I've played only Mizuno clubs for years and have hit other wedges, if looking, buy this one. The sound at impact tells you right away if you've trapped a nice ball, if so generates great spin for quality wedge play.

Pretty club, but the blue finish is only skin deep
The Club does what it is suppose to. I am saddened that the blue finish does not last. I have played maybe 10times and the bluing on the bottom is warn off. So she is not so new and shiny anymore. So if you want a good wedge this is it, but I'd you wanted a blue wedge because no has it, think twice, as beauty quickly fades. The end.

Response from Mizuno
The reason that the finish on the new T7 wedge appears faded is due to the sole passing through the turf, which effectively is "polishing" the sole. The slight smoothing or polishing of the surface changes how the light is reflected from the surface. It will appear slightly brighter than the rest of the head. Over time the color will become more and more uniform. This happens with any plated iron head (Chrome, Blue Ion, or Black Nickel), however, the dark color of the blue ion makes the contrast more visible. If you have any additional questions regarding these irons, please feel free to let us know.

Should be called the S5 Magic Wand!
I have played nearly every brand of wedge out there, and for the last year I have played that brand that starts with a "V". When I switched to JPX EZ irons, I wanted new wedges to go with them. So I went to a location where I could test them in real world situations. I was very impressed. So I ordered a 50, 55, and a 60. So far, I am even more impressed. The touch you have with these is ridiculous! Blows the competition out of the water. They should be called Magic Wands, not wedges. And yes, I love the blue color. Helps frame the ball and helps with alignment. A+++ Product!

Just wanted to try something different/new
Thank You, Mizuno
My Vokey wedges were wearing out and it was time to start looking at some replacements. I was planning on buying another set of Vokeys, but read about the Mizuno S5's. Tried them out at store, but didnt really trust an indoor launch monitor completely. I bought the 56 degree and went to the range. Long story short, I went back the next day and completed my wedges with the 52 and 60 degrees. Just played my first rounds this weekend and I could not be happier. Best clubs in my bag now. I cannot get over how easy these are to hit. Consistent and feel great.

I like my clubs on the lighter side and want to get the S5 at D1 swing weight, which R flex steel shaft will produce this SW?
A shopper on May 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to get the swing weight down to D1 with any of the steel shafts. We target a swing weight of D4 at standard length on our wedges.
How much could you bend a wedge loft without it affecting play? I would like to bend a 49 degree to 47 to replace my pitching wedge. Would this not be advisable?

thx
A shopper on Feb 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The 49 degree is already bent one degree from the 50 degree, so we wouldn't recommend bending the 49 degree and more than 1 more degree to 48 degrees. After you move it more than 2 degrees, you start really risking altering the play ability of the wedge.
I was fitted for 2016 jpx Ez forged in 1/2 longer for my whole set :: I am interested in the s5 wedges .. Should I also get them in 1/2 longer .. Or keep the standard length .. Thanks?
Eastonpro on Apr 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is really a personal preference when it comes to the length of your wedges. Some players like to have them the same as their iron set, but some people like to have them at standard length since you are playing multiple different types of shots with them.
Why dont you offer ust recoil 95 shafts as an option for your irons and wedges ?
Twist on Feb 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we do not offer the UST Recoil shaft at this time. However, the steel shafts that we do offer are available at no up charge. We have not heard anything at this time to confirm any future shaft offerings we may have available.
what is the size of the club?
A shopper on Apr 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The length of the S5 wedges is 35.25" and that is measured with out a grip installed.

BEST ANSWER: At this time, we have not heard of any future release of a wedge made with the Boron material.
What's the difference between the standard shaft and a spinner shaft?
A shopper on Mar 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Spinner shaft is a lighter shaft with a low ball flight while also keeping the spin rate higher.
How can I order a wedge an inch and a half longer shaft?
Sal I on Feb 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That will be a custom order, and all custom orders have to be placed through one of our authorized retailers.
Could you get these shafts in KBS tour lite shafts? Would that reduce weight?
davidboys on Feb 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We do offer the KBS Tour C-Taper lite shaft for our wedges. Our targeted swing weight is D4 at standard length for our wedges, but with this shaft, the swing weight will probably drop to about D3.
What is the swingweight?
A shopper on Feb 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The targeted swing weight at standard length with a steel shaft for our wedges is D4.
Do u have a full set of irons in the blue Ion steel like the S5 wedge..?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, we do offer a 55-09 configuration, but it is only available for custom order through any of our authorized retailers.
I currently play the old MP-R wedges because of the round shape. Is the design of the S5 more of a round shape than the MP-T wedges?
MyMPR on Oct 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the S5's will be more round and a slightly larger face than the MP T5's.
I have the jox850 forged irons I played the mmpsirons today. Am around a 6 to o handicap should I stay with the 850 or would the mmpsbe better I hit the mmpsgood today
hammer1432 on Oct 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It is hard for us to give a recommendation just based off of handicap, but according to the spectrums that we have placed on our irons, it seems that you would be well fit for one of our MP irons. We ultimately recommend going through our fitting process.
I own the T5 wedges in black and was wanting to get a set of the S5's for my wife; however, the T5's I own are very head heavy vs the T11 wedges I replaced. What is the swing weight of the S5's; she needs a balanced wedge vs heavy head.
